Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper's knee)

Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper's knee)

Patellar Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon that connects your kneecap to your shinbone. It is sometimes known as jumper's knee because people who are involved with sports that involve jumping (i.e., volleyball or basketball) are more likely to develop this condition. Pain and swelling inferior to your kneecap are fairly common presenting symptoms. Patellar tendinitis is treated conservatively with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, rest or modification of activities, knee straps or sleeves, and physical therapy aimed at local treatment of the pain. Surgery is reserved for a minority of cases that do not respond to conservative treatment.
